The Office of Local History was established in 1960 to provide a more systematic program of assistance to a growing number of affiliates. Administratively the office reported first to the director of the Historical Society, then was moved to the Museum Division (WIHV86-A2049) in 1968, to the Division of Development and State Relations in 1979, and to the Division of Public History (WIHV97-A89) in 1996.
